Born in Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal, in 1991, Francisca Bastos started her musical studies at age 6 in "Escola da Banda de Música de Loureiro" with her first bassoon teacher José Pedro Figueiredo. At 13 she joined her hometown's Music Academy studying with Lurdes Carneiro and at 15 was accepted in "Escola Profissional de Música de Viana do Castelo" in Prof. Pedro Silva's class. She finished her Bachelor in Performance - Bassoon with Pedro Silva at the "Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo" (Oporto) in 2013, after an Erasmus Year in Vienna at the Konservatorium Wien Universität with Prof. Marcelo Padilla. In June 2015 she finished her Master in Performing Arts - Orchestra/Bassoon in Zurich at the Zürcher Hochschule der Kunste with Prof. Giorgio Mandolesi, where she now attends the Pedagogy Master with same teacher and with Nathalie Blaser as her Specialized Didatic Teacher and Mentor.
In Masterclasses, Francisca had the opportunity of working with renowned musicians, such as Gilbert Audin, Sergio Azzolini, Paollo Calligaris, Stefano Canuti, Carlo Colombo, Pascal Gallois, Roberto Giaccaglia, Gavin Hill, Luc Loubry, Giorgio Mandolesi, Pierre Olivier Martens, Olivier Massot, Marco Postinghel, Alex Smith, Giorgio Versiglia e Olga Prats (Chamber Music).
In January 2015, within the scope of the Project Mozart+ of the Bayerische Philharmonie Kammerorchester under the direction of Mark Mast, Bastos had her first experience as a soloist, playing the “Variations on an Arietta by Pergolesi for Bassoon and String Orchestra” by Otmar Nussio, on the composer's death 15th Anniversary, in a tournée of 8 concerts: Cuvillés-Theater in Munich, Wiener Konzerthaus (Vienna), Fraumünster in Zurich and other Concert Halls in south Germany. During the same year she did an Internship in the Opernhaus Zurich and was invited as freelancer to one project in the Orchestre de Paris.
During her studies and now early professional life she played in the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, the Festival of Young Artists Bayreuth Orchestra, Ensemble Wien Modern, ZHdK and KonsWien Orchestras, APROARTE Orchestra, Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Sinfonietta de Ponta Delgada, among others, working with conductors like Marco Armiliato, Jaan van Zweden, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Fabio David Zinman, Fabio Luisi, Domingo Hindoyan, António Saiote, Erik Janssen, Ernst Schelle, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Julian Lombana, Pedro Neves, Javier Viceiro, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Jan Cober, Karl Anton Rickenbacher, Michael Werba e Vinicius Kattah.
Francisca was in 2012 awarded with the 2nd Prize (no 1st Prize awarded) in the oldest Category on the "I Concurso Internacional de Música de Terras de La-Salette".
Since February 2016 is she also a private bassoon teacher in Zurich, activity she had already exercised in Portugal from 2009 till 2012.
